This company (shortly “DA”) was a subcontractor of building utility plants and had finished building one of Iran’s biggest industrial gas production plants in as BOT work frame in Ahvaz. The utility plant was supposed to supply oxygen and nitrogen to a big steel producing company, namely Khuzestan Steel Company. DA was further allowed to sell the excessive products to pay back its investment.

DA was at the end of the operation phase of the BOT project when I joined it. Well, the plant was built and was in operation, but it had failed to meet its financial KPI’s. The company was seriously looking to win supply projects and sell as much as possible of its production gases, otherwise blown into the air!

A friend of mine who was an expert in this field and I took the responsibility to expand their business and find customers for the products.

It was 9 months after we joined the company that we won a project for supplying N2 to the Phase III of the Abadan Refinery expansion project. For this contract we had to build a temporary storage and gasification unit inside the refinery and fill it daily from our plant, some 120 km away, and inject N2 into the system.

This project was completed within two months as my main achievement there, and helped the company make money out of a then-blown-into-air produced N2.
